Celebrate Veterans Day

Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is a time to pay tribute to the bravery, dedication and selflessness of the women and men who served and continue to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. At Chesapeake Utilities, we celebrate 90 active and veteran service members across our Company. These employees have made tremendous commitments and sacrifices to serve our nation and protect our freedom. History of Veterans Day

Nov. 10, 2023: 10-11 a.m. Keynote Speaker: General Walter Kross

On behalf of the Veterans Resource Group, we welcome keynote speaker General Walter Kross and honor our 90 employees who are active or veteran service members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

As a unified command commander-in-chief, General Kross was responsible to the secretary of defense for the nation’s defense transportation requirements. He exercised command over service transportation components from the Army, Navy and Air Force. As commander of the Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base Illinois, he provided operationally trained, equipped and mission-ready air mobility forces to support U.S. requirements.

His early career combined both fighter and airlift experience as he flew 157 F-4 combat missions, 100 of those over North Vietnam. General Kross was assigned to Headquarters U.S. Air Force for six years, part of that time in the Chief’s Staff group. He has served as commander of a C-5 wing, as director of operations and logistics for all defense transportation requirements in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, and as director of operations for Air Force headquarters.

Join an Employee Resource Group!

Our team values the strength of differences. This cultivates inclusion and drives innovation and creativity. Employee resource groups (ERGs) enable team members to share perspectives and experiences, advocate for common interests and provide recommendations that support key business objectives. They are a great place to build skills through leadership opportunities, training and community outreach.

The Veterans Resource Group is an ERG open to all employees. This ERG supports veterans and families of veterans. Team members help veterans to transition from the military to the civilian workforce, and offer opportunities for all to leverage their unique backgrounds and experience.

To join the Veterans Resource Group as a team member, supporter or ally, please contact Bill Adams, Chair, at [email protected].

Wreaths Across America

The Veterans Resource Group is sponsoring wreath-laying ceremonies through Wreaths Across America this holiday season. Please join them by volunteering on Saturday, Dec. 16, to assist in a wreath-laying ceremony at your local cemetery.

If you are unable to volunteer on Saturday, Dec. 16, please consider a personal donation to secure a wreath to be laid at the grave of a fallen service member. Wreaths are $17 each, and employees can sponsor as many as desired. The Veterans Resource Group will match the first 120 wreath sponsorships made by employees by the end of day, Thursday, Nov. 30.
